The art of Ed Beard Jr

I met this artist at "King Richards Faire" Carver MA, on one of
my trips to visit some very good friends in the USA. Whilst there
I bought one of his wonderful Unicorn pictures. On returning home
I decided to check out his website. If anyone has an interest in fantasy art,
this is a site you must visit. Some of you may have seen his artwork already
on some of the "Magic the Gathering" cards or comic book covers ! He has an
outstanding range of work, and much of it is on show, and for sale on his website.

Backgrounds by Unicorn Express

Recently I came across this excellent collection of tiles, borders, buttons, wallpaper and
other things, all with a unicorn theme, to help people with their website designs.

Unicorn Sculptures by Juan Gilberto Hernandez

I was recently sent these pictures and details of these wonderful 6 foot high sculptures
of unicorn heads, carved by an artist in Puerto Rico called Juan Gilberto Hernandez.
Each piece is around six feet high and two feet across, carved from a tree trunk.
It takes the artist many months of work to create these amazing works of art.

I recently read on Sue Dawe's website that she will have a Unicorn
Calendar published for next year, 2001. I know many of you who love
her wonderful Unicorn artwork like I do will cheer at this news ! For more

Pages of Special Merit

This is where I review pages worthy of special merit each edition.
These are pages I've visited or revisited that have something
unique and original about them, or really do show that the author
has put a lot of effort into writing and designing the site.
It's a personal award really, to recognise hard work,
originality, good design and dedication to Unicorns.

This editions site of merit is called Spaar Fantasy
This site has some astounding and very original digital artwork that has a real visual
"WOW!" factor. It is a collection of the artists original and unique designs, desktop
backgrounds and wallpapers. I first noticed the artwork some years ago, and have
watched with extreme interest as the artists style has developed. There are some unique,
sometimes unusual, but beautiful images that have been created. This style of artwork
may not suit everyone, but these pictures are unique, visually stunning and inspiring.
To create these images takes time and effort (as I well know !). So do take a look

New Websites

As usual there are a number of new sites to look at for this edition
that have been added to the Unicorn links page (which was
moved to a separate page a few months ago).

Wolfwhisper's excellent website about wolves also has a page about Unicorns too.
Silverwolf's Mystic Worlds also has a Unicorn page and a delightful Unicorn poem too.

Rand's Unicorns which is part of the Randam Art site, is beautifully designed
page with information on the history of the unicorn and pictures too.

Celebrating Monoceros is an excellent site, with some wonderful and beautifully
written original Unicorn stories by the sites author, Joanne Blessing.
One of the best sites I've reviewed for this edition.

Stardust's Courage is also a page with a delightful unicorn story.
There is also an excellent Unicorn poem on a webpage by Solo

Fantasy Home Page : Step into "this is the world of fantasy, of dreams"
A wonderful site, a journey through a collection of stories, pictures of Unicorns and
other mythical creatures, do take a journey there. I was most impressed by this page.

The Unicorn Cove has "pages are dedicated to the beautiful and fascinating world
of the Unicorns" It has the history of, pictures, poems and information on
Unicorns within a very attractively designed website. One to visit for sure.

Lady Gryphon's Mythical Realm is a very interesting site that has a section on Unicorns.
Katarina's Realm of Unicorns is a good collection of unicorn pictures and quotes.
Another good site is Welcome to Fran's Unicorns which has pictures and information
on Unicorns. Unicorn Heaven has a large collection of links to other unicorn sites,
and it may even be larger than mine ! The Fantasy Gallery has a gallery with
some Unicorn pictures as well as dragons and other subjects.

Denise's Universe O'Unicorns has a picture gallery, links and other pages.
Unicorns Playground also has a picture gallery too. My Beautiful Last Unicorn is
a site mainly about the "Last Unicorn" movie. Unicorns is a page devoted to
"the beautiful, strange and fascinating phenomena of Unicorns". Other new
sites for this edition are ; Xwired's Unicorn and Fantasy Page,
and also a site called Unicorn Club

And if you ever wanted to ask the question 'Do I spend a lot of time
looking for unicorns sites ?', the answer is YES 8-).
Just don't ask how big my monthly phone bill is, or
if my computer chair is worn out yet ! OK 8-)

Johnnas Stained Glass and Gifts has a series of excellent and quite beautiful
hand crafted stained glasswork unicorns.

Enchanted Fantasies has unicorn figures within it's collection, as does
101 Ways To a Unicorn Collection which has a number of figures on sale.
Unicorn & Ki-Rin Gallery, Windstone Editions has a number of figures too.

Fantasy World Pewter online store site has some wonderful unicorn

Unicorn pictures (where to find them)

There are some sites with large and growing Unicorn picture collections.
There is a site with an excellent unicorn picture collection at Danielle's Unicorn Page,
Unicorn Dreams has a growing collection of pictures, good quality scans too.
Holly's Unicorn Meadow has been recently updated and enlarged,
Theresa Farrell's site has some very good original fantasy artwork in her gallery.
Welcome To Wild Unicorns has an extensive collection, and
Paladin's Last Unicorn Page has a large collection of 'The Last Unicorn' movie images
Both of these are excellent web sites too, Paladins page has a bookstore too.
However, I still think Neysa may have one of the largest collections of unicorn
pictures on the internet, several artists exhibit their work there.

Other Artwork Sites

There is some excellent fantasy artwork on this site by Linda Gruber,
and some good tutorials on drawing techniques too ! (I've tried them).

This artist from Uruguay has recently done some wonderful Unicorn drawings.
They are being kindly being hosted by Neysa on her Unicorn picture page.
I must also thank Gissel E. for a wonderful picture she sent to me.

Neysa's Unicorn Picture Page has also been re-designed and moved
recently to a new URL. This must be the best Unicorn picture
collection on the net and it's always worth a visit.

More Unicorn Pictures

This is one of the first unicorn pictures I've done myself.
Its based on a photograph of a horse I took which
I've reworked. Click on the picture for the full size version.

Another unusual unicorn picture.
These two impressive stone unicorn carvings are
on a factory wall in Stafford near my home.
They were erected when the building was
constructed which was sometime around 1937-1938.  

Recently several more people have sent to me some wonderful unicorn
artwork they had created, which with their permission
I am showing on these pages

This picture, created using Photoshop, was sent to me by Mare Astra
as a self portrait. She is significant for having one of the first Unicorn
websites I ever found on the internet, and her site helped to
inspire the creation of this website over three years ago.

These two pictures were sent to me by an artist called Gennale.
I liked them so much I requested permission to put them
on my page, so here they are. The picture on the left is
called Tatianna, and the one on the right is called Wild.

This was one of two pictures sent to me by an an artist called Shar.
Again, as I liked it so much, I asked if it could be displayed here.

Content and Originality

Original work is becoming rarer, and certainly should be valued. But too many
websites recently though are copying others ideas and then claiming
sole right to it themselves ! They also often use annoying Java code that
stops the right mouse button from working. It's not easy to review pages
easily for mention on this page or bookmark them when half the
browsers functions have been disabled by unfriendly Java code !
