Recently a number of unicorn movies have either been released
or re-released on DVD disc or VHS cassette or are about to be;

This was recently released on DVD here in the UK in a wide-screen
version. Many of you will have already have seen it or know of it, it's
quite a wonderful film, and is worth seeing.

There is also a long rumoured "special edition" coming
out, maybe sometime mid-late May. If it does, you'll hear
about it here, as I'll have a copy ! Hopefully the "special
edition" will also be released in the UK, and at the same,
as the USA, but sadly this is so often not the case *sigh*

Available on the UK and USA Amazon sites, news of this movie was
first given here back in the April 2001 edition of this page.
It's an enjoyable and quite magical story, and well worth
seeing if you like unicorns. The movies own webpage
is still online at Peakviewing Transatlantic's Website.

If you've not seen this one, then please do so!
It's a wonderful story based on the book by the same title,
and is a most enjoyable family film with a gripping climax and a
happy ending. They even gave the names of the horse 'actors' in the
end credits which is too often overlooked, a very nice touch indeed!
I will say no more and spoil it for you, apart from that it was
far better than I ever expected, so go and get a copy 8-)

The "live action" movie of 'The Last Unicorn'

This new movie of Peter Beagle's legendary and wonderful book is presently
being made by Continent Film Ltd and is due for release in the Autumn or
Winter of 2003. From what I read on their website it promises to be
something that is quite wonderful and true to original story itself.

It has been recently updated, and do check out the astounding CGI
test animation downloads there, they are more than worth it and
and bear great promise for what I think will be a truly magical movie.

Peter Beagle himself had re-written the screenplay, and some of the worlds best
talents are at work creating this movie at present. It is being directed by Julian Doyle
and Michael Pakleppa and produced by Michael Pakleppa and the Executive
Producer, Joe Drier. The films website at www.the-last-unicorn.net/index.htm is
full of well written, detailed information and news about the making of this movie.
It really does give an insight into the details of what making it really involves !

If you have loved reading the book, or watching the animated movie,
then do visit their website and see the magic that is being woven.

On another note entirely..........
I got my "Nico the Unicorn" copy from Amazon in the USA as it does not appear to
be in the UK yet, hence is only viewable on Region 1 compatible DVD players
unless someone knows otherwise (and do let me know). There are sadly many
titles concerning unicorns that you cannot get easily or at all in the UK,
even some that are produced over here ! So you UK DVD and VHS
movie distributors and publishers, GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER !
Why do the UK consumers have to put up with being
treated as second class citizens all the time ?
Thats my rant for the month over <grin>

It states it is the largest home of amateur Science Fiction & Fantasy art and
fiction, and I believe this to be quite a true statement from what I've
seen ! It's a non-profit project created and maintained by
Thomas F Abrahamsson and others, based in Sweden.

There is a lot of wonderful unicorn artwork to be
found on there in the "Lothlorien" online art gallery !
Don't set out with the intention of spending a short time
going through this site, you wont, in fact, you could spend weeks !
There is that much artwork there, and some of it of a very high standard
indeed ! There is a search engine there that will help you find things though.
(Please note, some images may not be suitable for minors !)

Katy L. Rewston's artwork page (in gallery 462) is wonderful !
She is a young artist, but the quality of the work doesn't show that !
There you will find some of the most powerful, unique and well drawn
unicorn (and equine) images I've seen for a long time. And it asks
the question, "are unicorns all sweetness and light ?"
Whatever you think, this artwork and the stories you will
find linked off this page are really worth seeing !

Another page with some excellent unicorn and fantasy
equine artwork is by the artist Leslye A. Ward (gallery 185).
The Unicorn in Winter picture is especially wonderful,
do go and see this one if nothing else !

I will be mentioning more unicorn artwork from this gallery
site over the next few editions...........

This absolutely wonderful 46" high carved unicorn rocking horse was
sculpted by DJ Liccardi, and can be found on the "Rare Breed"
Rocking Horse website at www.djlrarebreed.com
There are also many examples of other rocking horses there too.

Swandog Studio's
Swandog Studios (Art by Xenia) has some wonderful original
artwork with some Unicorn pictures (and equine / TF one's) too.
It has recently moved to it's own domain name, swandogstudio.com

This recently opened online store has many wonderful unicorn
and other fantasy gifts within it, it's worth a look certainly !

The Lost Unicorns is an article excellent article by Karkadann with accompanying
illustrations which deals with what the appearance of a unicorn should really
be. The entire website at http://www.avians.net/paragon is well worth a visit
too, it's well illustrated and is dedicated to creatures of myth and legend.

Want to have a go at colouring your own Unicorn pictures ? Yes, there is
an online Unicorn colouring book ! It's part of the Awhitehorse.com Arabian
horse website, and it's recently been expanded with even more
pictures to colour by the sites author and artist, Stacey Mayer.

This is where I review pages worthy of special merit each edition.
These are pages I've visited or revisited that have something
unique and original about them, they may really do show that the
author has put a lot of effort into writing and designing the site
or display artwork or stories of exceptional originality.
It's a personal award really, to recognise hard work,
originality, good design or just dedication to Unicorns.

This time it goes to a site that is truly one of the largest on fantasy
subjects and mythical animals that there is out there. So much effort
and time seems to go into it that it deserves recognition just for that
alone! What's in it ? Well just look at some items on this mammoth list ;

and much, much more, 571 pages and it's growing all the time too !

The Unicorn pages are excellent, and like the rest of the pages on
the site there is factual information and a large picture collection
to see. Do check out the Dragon, Pegasus and the Centaur pages
there. Each page is very well written, and all the links work too.
The page layouts are very good, and there are some fun
mouse and java effects as well as gif animations. There
are also desktop themes to download and much more !
Do take some time to visit this site, its worth it.

As usual there are a number of new sites to look at for this edition
that have been added to the Unicorn links page (which was
moved to a separate page then split into two some time ago).

Dreamland Magic is a wonderful page for all ages especially kids. You will
find games, pictures to colour, gifts in an online store and lots of stuff for
all ages too. One of the two best sites I found this month...

..the other being, Welcome to the New Land of the Unicorns
This page by "QueenHoda" (Kristen Welton) is full of her original artwork
together with poems and a very large unicorn picture gallery. Do visit this one

Another excellent one is Mystical World of Unicorns. There are
lots of pictures, information on unicorns and unicorn books,
poems, artwork, stories and many other things too

Unicorn World has pictures and links to unicorn sites,
Unicorn Club has pictures links and other things too.

And if you ever wanted to ask the question 'Do I spend a lot of
time looking for Unicorn sites ?', the answer is YES 8-).
Just don't ask how big my monthly phone bill is, or
if my computer chair is worn out yet ! OK <grin>

There's some great news for any of you out there who collect unicorn figures,
especially the Enchantica 'Fables' series by Holland Studio Craft.
They have a website, with the entire range of figures and lots

Unicorn pictures (where to find them)

There are some sites with large and growing Unicorn picture collections.
There is a site with an excellent unicorn picture collection at Danielle's Unicorn Page,
Unicorn Dreams has a growing collection of pictures, good quality scans too.
Holly's Unicorn Meadow has been recently updated and enlarged,
Theresa Farrell's site has some very good original fantasy artwork in her gallery.
Welcome To Wild Unicorns has an extensive collection, and
Paladin's Last Unicorn Page has a large collection of 'The Last Unicorn' movie images
Both of these are excellent web sites too, Paladins page has a bookstore too.
However, I still think Neysa may have one of the largest collections of unicorn
pictures on the internet, several artists exhibit their work there.

This artist from Uruguay has recently done some wonderful Unicorn drawings.
They are being kindly being hosted by Neysa on her Unicorn picture page.
I must also thank Gissel E. for a wonderful picture she sent to me.
Do take a look at the Gissel E. collection, they're beautiful and inventive.

Neysa's Unicorn Picture Page has also been re-designed and moved
recently to a new URL. This must be the best Unicorn picture
collection on the net and it's always worth a visit.

Miscellaneous topics

You can see a wonderful Pegasus statue in the process of being made!
If you visit the website of the artist and sculptor Cary J. Van Dansik ,
and take a look at the Pegasus page, you will get great insight into
the creation of beautiful sculpture of Pegasus, based on a portrait
of Welsh mountain stallion. There is also a pair of unicorns
there too, as well as the most wonderful equine sculptures
you will probably ever see.

Anyone who likes flying Unicorns and Pegasi, there is a great site
with a lot of beautiful original artwork. Take a look at ;

This is a very new website, but it's got a wonderfully large picture gallery !

Unicorn Dream

Unicorn Dream has been 'twinned' with this site.

The brilliant artist who's building this site has revised it recently,
Please note that it is still very much under construction.
It is most definitely worth visiting, you won't be disappointed.

This is one of the first unicorn pictures I've done myself.
Its based on a photograph of a horse I took which
I've reworked. Click on the picture for the full size version.

Another unusual unicorn picture.
These two impressive stone unicorn figures are
on a factory wall in Stafford near my home.
They were erected when the building was
constructed which was sometime around 1937-1938.
Click on the image to see a close-up of one of these.

Recently several more people have sent to me some wonderful unicorn
artwork they had created, which with their permission
I am showing on these pages

This picture, created using Photoshop, was sent to me by Mare Astra
as a self portrait. She is significant for having one of the first Unicorn
websites I ever found on the internet, and her site helped to
inspire the creation of this website over three years ago.

These two pictures were sent to me by an artist called Gennale.
I liked them so much I requested permission to put them
on my page, so here they are. The picture on the left is
called Tatianna, and the one on the right is called Wild.

Original work is becoming rarer, and certainly should be valued. But too many
websites recently though are copying others ideas and then claiming
sole right to it themselves ! They also often use annoying Java code that
stops the right mouse button from working. It's not easy to review pages
easily for mention on this page or bookmark them when half the
browsers functions have been disabled by unfriendly Java code !
