Ibn
Sbeyel. I took my digital camera with me when I
revisited two 'old friends' I hadn't seen for 15 years !
The first being this Arabian stallion, called Ibn Sbeyel
(Sonny to his friends) and second, his owner, Carol. I
had ridden this guy as a five year old many years ago.I
took this close up shot when he was eating, it was well
worth the wait to line up this one, it's one of my
favourite pictures of the day.
1/125 Sec,
F5.6, 360mm

Emrys,
taken after returning to the stable. This is one of
my first horse photo's using a digital camera ! I
recently bought an Olympus C2100UZ digital camera which
has zoom lens built in equivalent to 38-380mm on an SLR.
I took it with me recently on a trip to the stables I
often ride at. This one of Emrys (a Welsh Section D
gelding) was taken after we arrived back from a ride.
Taken at 1/60th sec, F3.5 at Cannock Chase Trekking
Centre. I like the "painting" quality of this
picture. The next two photographs were also taken with
this camera whilst getting to know my way around it 8-)

Autumn. Another photo
with the Olympus C2100 camera, 1/400th sec, F3.5. A filly
from Cannock Chase Trekking Centre. I used a long zoom to
get this with a wide aperature for a narrow depth of
field to null the background.

Connor. Another of the
young horses at the centre, again taken with the Olympus
C2100 digital camera, F3.5, 1/320th sec.

Brodie,
taken before the Sheriffs Ride, Lichfield Staffordshire. Taken on ASA400
film, 60-300mm zoom lens, using a Chinon CE4. Brodie was
being unloaded and led past me, and I only had a second
or two to set up this shot. Camera in auto shutter, zoom
at 60mm, F8.

Sassafras
and her rider. (USA) Taken on Kodak
ASA400 film, 60-300mm zoom lens, using a Chinon CE4

Prophet,
after a roll in the paddock. (USA) Tricky exposure
with the backlighting, but a +1 stop compensation was
enough.Taken using Kodak ASA400 film, 60-300mm zoom lens,
using a Chinon CE4. A very nice horse to ride, and as
always he was good to me whilst I was there.

Jordan.
(USA) Taken using Kodak ASA400 film, 50mm lens
on the Chinon CE4. Due to the low lighting levels I used
the fixed 50mm to get the wide aperature (F2.2) I needed
for the conditions. There was a "spotlight"
effect due to the light through the doorway which I
thought I could make use of here.

One of a
series of pictures taken of a group of fillies in a field
at Brigg's stables, MA, USA Taken using
Kodak ASA 400 film, 60-300mm zoom lens. These were also
developed on Fuji paper in the USA at Bay State Color in
Hanover MA. They did a first class job too !
I tried to make use of the soft lighting caused by nearby
trees and the low, morning sunlight, I think it suited
the subjects well ! I'm really pleased with this one,
especially after I had it enlarged to 12"x8" by
my local Jessops store.

Sophie,
taken before the Sheriffs Ride, Lichfield Staffordshire. Sophie was
giving me one of those "you got carrots ?"
looks 8-)
I cropped this picture down a little to remove the person
holding the horse next to her. It's this only picture on
this set that has been cropped. Taken on ASA400 film,
60-300mm zoom lens at around 100mm with the Chinon CE4.
